Selma van de Perre

Episode 2: Selma van de Perre Rebel Women Podcast

This week's Woman du Jour is the life of Dutch Jewish Resistance fighter, Selma van de Perre, née Velleman. In this episode, I delve into her life as a young, 20 something woman who works as a courier for those fighting the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, and is eventually captured and sentenced to prison in the infamous Ravensbrück concentration camp that was the only all female concentration camp. Her story makes up one of many women at the time that fought in ways people couldn't have imagined at that time (women in France couldn't even vote!). Making the Episode

Selma van de Perre: Making the Episode

The research leading up to the making of this episode was intense to say the least. I don’t always know what I am getting myself into when I decide the women I will showcase for each episode, and while I knew the parameters of Selma’s story, putting myself in her shoes was certainly difficult because it meant imagining what she went through, and what so many people went through during WWII. Women in Business Spotlight

Yolklore Spotlight

Yolklore is one of the best breakfast spots in STL, (in my humble opinion). The food there is fresh, the eggs are delicious, and the chef-owner, Mary Bogacki is probably the chillest chef I have met, (and my dad who is a chef, and my boyfriend who was a chef are both pretty chill people so I would know)! The creation of the Spotlight for this episode went so smoothly that I was sure I had done something wrong, but it really was that easy. I am always nervous to meet new people, and this project that I am undertaking…
