The Women in Business Spotlight for episode 4 is a special one! Sugarwitch is a small batch ice cream sandwich store that is local to my neighborhood, and I have had the chance to watch them grow from a small company that I could find at Perennial Artisan Ales, to their own brick-and-mortar location that’s only a short walk from me!
Sugarwitch is co-owned by Sophie Mendelson and Martha Bass and they combine their love of ice cream with their love of literature in each of their yummy ice cream sandwiches, putting the creative twist of literary witches to name each one. You’ll find treats there like the Ursula, a vanilla based ice cream with sprinkles sand-witch’d between a salted brownie, the Rhiannon, a brown butter cream cheese ice cream smushed between carrot cake cookies, and can even order a pup cup for your four legged friends with 50% of the proceeds going towards the Humane Society of Missouri.
On top of all of the delicious goodies that can be found at at Sugarwitch, they also offer Tarot Readings every third Friday of the month which I think beautifully fits in with their theme. As the weather gets warmer, (and my need for ice cream becomes untenable), I will definitely be popping down to their shop with dog in tow!
One special fact that I’ll let you guys in on too: When I had the chance to sit down with Sophie to collect this Spotlight, I was delighted to find out that she was just as much a fan as I was of Hatshepsut. She said that when she was a kid and was asked, “Who would you love to have dinner with from any person in history?” and picked our long-lasting King of Egypt, so I knew that Sugarwitch had to be the Spotlight for this episode.
If you guys pop into Sugarwitch on on your next visit to STL, tag Rebel Women Podcast on Instagram! I will always be so excited to see Rebels supporting these amazing businesses!
