Brainstorming The First Trailer

I have been agonizing over how I want this first big trailer to sound. It’s the thing that is going to bring people in to listening to my podcast for the first time, so it feels like a big deal. Ultimately I plan on releasing a few trailers as get closer to the first episode, but I want this first one to really showcase what the pod is going to be like. So I am running into the problem: do I script myself or go off the cuff? Do I do one take, then retake it if I like it but I don’t love it? How many times should I rehearse something before I sound rehearsed?

Initially I didn’t even have an idea for how I wanted to present the show, so I went on a walk with Zoe in the woods and thought and thought about what would be the most effective way to showcase what I am trying to achieve. I did come up with an idea, and I hope it works. Probably the thing that makes me the most anxious is that I am going to try pairing my podcast recording with a video recording because the route to success for this project is going to include reaching across many platforms. It’s not that I don’t think I can do this, but I am basically taking on the role of creator, producer, videographer, and editor all at once. And while I have experience with all of these things, (either through classes that I needed to learn these skills or previous projects) I can sense what a daunting task this podcast will be.

That’s why I am glad I decided to only produce twelve episodes a season and to release bi-weekly. I want the product to be as good as it can be!

Now for this first trailer, (which will get it’s own post, post-production!) I hope to produce something that has a little humor to it but gives you guys the information you will need to know some of what the podcast will showcase. By next week (though I am hoping by this weekend) I will have something ready to at least publish for the podcast, and hopefully by next week I will have the first video for the youtube channel! My fear is that my podcasting space won’t be ready at the level I want, but sometimes you have to push through what you want something to feel like, and just take that first leap.

There is one thing I would love for you guys to do, if you wish! I would love to give a shout out at the end of each episode to a woman-owned business in your city! Go to the Contact Me tab (or follow the link!) and send me your recommendation for a business that deserves a shout out. An email will be sent directly to me, so if you include the name of the business, the city and state they can be found, and maybe a link to their website, I would love to represent women who are making a difference in their communities!
